P.G.T. Beeauregard
(1818-1893)
- Born near New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1818
- Graduated from West Point
- Fought in the Mexican War from 1846-1848
- Resigned from the U.S. Army in February, 1861
- Joined the Confederate Army
- April 1861, directed Confederate forces to bombard Fort Sumter
- Second in Command at the First Battle of Bull Run
- Took command after Shiloh, when A.S. Johnston was killed
- Commanded defending Confederate forces in 1863 from Union Navy attack
at Charleston, S. Carolina
- Defeated General Butler at Drury's Bluff, Virginia in May of 1864
- Became President of the New Orleans, Jackson, and Mississippi Railroad
after the War
