• Born in Richmond Virginia in 1825
• Graduated from West Point
• Fought in the Mexican War
• Resigned from the U.S. Army at the start of the Civil War
• Joined the Confederate Army in 1861 and was promoted to Brig General
• Was promoted to Major General later that year
• Defended Richmond in 1862 during the Peninsular Campaign
• Was the leader of the Famous "Picketts Charge" on July 3, 1863, at Gettysburg
• Defended Petersburg in 1864
• Fought in Five Forks and Dinwiddie Court House in 1865
