Challenge square dancing can be as fun and energetic as Mainstream dancing!  Dancing Challenge is equivalent to being a senior in high school... the beginner level is called Mainstream and then there is Plus and Advanced.  Challenge actually has 5 distinct levels (C1, C2, C3A, C3B, C4) and is danced in many countries outside of the United States, including Japan, Canada, Germany, and Sweden.

Many years ago, "challenge square dancing" meant dancing to nearly impossible sequences, nothing but a bunch of puzzles to be figured out by the dancers.  In fact,  the Ettseteras namebadge features little puzzle pieces as the "square dancers" because of this notion that Challenge is just a puzzle.  Today, however, challenge dancers enjoy good choreography that flows from one call to the next, thus making the dancing "seamless" in a sense.  There's no doubt; challenge dancers *do* crave the puzzle aspect of the activity!
