This program was designed to play ABC text files via the midi/sound card on a PC.
Below is a view of the player's main layout.
(Please note this is a screen sample from version 1. Version 2 is very similar but has more features.)
The Player has a number of features that aid in maintaining and playing ABC files.
Copy/Paste. Uses the clipboard to paste from or copy to other programs. Individual tunes can also copied from one ABC file to another.
File Editing.Renumbering of the X:field in ABC files and blank line removal. Some files downloaded may also be in Unix type format and these will be converted to a Dos version. The player can also use the text editor of your choice. The player also allow direct editing of a tune from the main 'text tune window'.
Playing.A number of options allows the user to change the way the player sounds. Tempo and Instrument Voice can be altered at any time during playback.
FIND.Find tunes by Tune Name or Tune Text or just search your disk for ABC files. The Finder will list all files that match and display the file locations and play the selected tune.
NEW
Volume Controls. Adjust the Channel Volume and leaves the note velocity as is.
Tune Editing.Allows the editing of single tune or whole file (via external editor of your choice) and creation of new tune text.
Screen Size Adjust.Adjust the width of the Player to view more tune details.
For a more detail see the full list of Menu Options.
If you need more information about using ABC, the ABC home page should be able to help you.
I also have number of TUNES in ABC written by friends.
To view and print the ABC tunes as sheet music see Jim Vint's ABC2WIN.
Another useful tool for ABC is ABCTOOLS.
Additional Notes.
Although written in VB3 for Windows 3.1 the player can also be used in Win95, and is Netscape compatable. Which means it can be used as a application/helper to play files as they are recieved from the net. After hearing use the 'EDIT - tune file' menu and 'save' to save tune to another file.
As the ABCPlayer is constantly being inproved and more feartures added, there are two versions available.
Please note that although Bass and Chord controls are on screen, the player does not play chords (ie "Dm") as yet but hopefully will soon.
