Potholder Patterns

Here are a couple of free potholder patterns that are very easy to make and take very little time to complete. Hope that you enjoy them. They require a size H/8 crochet hook, and the colors of your choice. Have fun!

"Ripple Star Potholder"


(NOTE: use two strands of yarn and work in BACK LOOP ONLY throughout. Instructions are written for solid color potholder, if changing colors, finish off and join new color in same stitch).

Ch 6 and join with sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn; 3 sc in ea sc arnd; join: 24sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1 turn; sc in first sc, (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) 7 times, 3 sc in next sc, sc in last sc; join: 40 sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 1; turn, sc in first 2 sc, (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc) 7 times, 3 sc in next sc, sc in last 2 sc; join: 56 sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 1; turn, sk first sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, (sk next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) 7 times, sk last sc; join: 56 sc.

Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 5: 56 sc.

Rnd 7: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 3 sc, (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc) 7 times, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; join: 72 sc.

Rnd 8: Ch 1, turn; sk first sc, sc in next 3 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, (sk 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) 7 times; join: 72 sc.

Rnd 9: Rep Rnd 8: 72 sc.

Rnd 10: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 4 sc, (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc) 7 times, 3 sc in next sc, sc in last 4 sc; join: 88 sc.

Rnd 11: Ch 1, turn; sk first sc, sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, (sk next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc) 7 times; join, finish off.

BASIC RING: Join 1 strand of yarn with sc in last rnd; ch 8, join with sl st to form ring. Work 25 sc in ring, join to first sc, sc in last rnd; finish off.

Ripple Potholder

(NOTE: Use 2 strands of yarn and work in BACK LOOP ONLY throughout).

Ch 10, join with sl st to form ring.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first 3 chs, 3 sc in next ch, (center), sc in next 3 chs: 9 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 4 sc, 3 sc in center sc, sc in last 4 sc: 11 sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 5 sc, 3 sc in center sc, sc in last 5 sc: 13 sc.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 6 sc, 3 sc in center sc, sc in last 6 sc: 15 sc.

Row 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 7 sc, 3 sc in center sc, sc in last 7 sc: 17 sc.

Row 6-21: Cont. to inc. 2 sts in ea. row in the same manner having one sc more on ea. side of the center sc; finish off at end of row 21.

Work Basic Ring as with above pattern.
