Ph.D. (Appropriate Rural Technology System) from IIT,
Delhi in 1982-87 and Degree in Mechanical Engineering from IT, BHU in 1970.
Throughout high first division academic career with distinctions including a
wide range of extra-curricular activities with top honours in debates, essays,
models, NCC, etc.

Born on March 29, 1949 in a middle class family of teachers
and freedom fighters at a small rural town (Nakur, Saharanpur, UP), Shri Sharma
has traveled very widely throughout the country and also abroad including
Russia, Uzbekistan and South Africa.
Ø
Engaged in a micro-level experiment on application of
science and technology for tribal development since last two decades in
Jharkhand and initiated/steered/coordinated several technical projects related
to rural artisans and women. Initiated Karighar Panchayat (Artisan – Guild) at
Bishunpur in 1984 and developed the concept of Rashtriya Karigar Panchayat.

Leading technical expert and administrator in the field of
rural industrialization and widely known for pioneering innovative work in
artisan sector. Recipient of Prestigious awards from Bharat Vikas Parishad and
Gold Medal from MECON India Ltd.

Presently, Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries
Commission, Govt. of India since May 1998. Also –
