New initiatives under REGP

District Special Employment Programme and 125 Block Development Programme are two major components of REGP.  A detailed note on these special programme are placed separately.
National Programme on selected Industries is the other important area which required reference under REGP.  The highlights of this scheme are as follows :-
a)  Handmade Paper Industry

Under HMP it is proposed to set up 460 new HMP units providing employment to 40,000 persons. One registered institutions at Faridabad has been identified under this programme.  In addition to this, 5 traditional Handmade Paper Units have been given financial assistance for revival upto 1996-97.

b)  Leather Industry

This programme envisages for setting up of 200 projects all over India.  Four projects's one in each in Kalyani (W.B.), Ambala (Haryana), Jalandhar (Punjab) and Agra(U.P.) are being implemented.  In Agra a common facility centre for footwear unit is started.  Under the Leather Technology Mission, KVIC/UNDP Joint Programme, Projet has been taken up at Kalyani.  So far 498 artisans have been trained under this programme.

c)  Bee Keeping
This programme proposed to generate about 50000 employment by the end of 9th Five Year Plan by implementing 99 National Projects all over the country.

It is also proposed to implement Special Projects under Pottery with an employment target of 73,000 persons by the terminal year of 9th five-year Plan.
