The Owl's Page

Hello, My name is David, A.K.A. The Night Owl. I got that little nickname from a friend of mine because I happen to work a 12 hour night shift and it seems to fit. And although I do not still work the night owl hours the name has stuck with me.

Art has always been something that I enjoyed, and even at an early age I thought I'd like to try my hand at it. But then cooler(?) heads prevailed and I came up with the notion that art wasn't going to give me a lifestyle that I wanted. (Riches) So I went forth into the world to pursue other means of making a living. But deep down inside the longing for art was still there. About 11 years ago I finally succumbed to my needs and began painting. Needless to say my first attempts were sad to say the least, but as time went by things began to improve. Besides the joy of painting is one fantastic way to relieve the stresses of modern life. I do hope you enjoy viewing my artwork, and feel free to email me with any comments you have.

Now for a little about myself. I was born in Colorado but my family moved to Missouri when I was little. I still remember some of the Colorado landscape and do occasionally try to capture some of that in a few of my paintings. I've lived much of my "adult" life in the hills of NW Arkansas, where I live now. There's beauty in everyplace I've ever seen, but I am attracted greatly to the scenery around my home area. I paint primarily from memory and photographs, but I do some painting on location when time permits. As a result I have also become somewhat of a camera buff and plan to add some of my photos to this web page as I get them set up. Keep an eye on my site, photos are coming soon! Have been working with a new medium format camera and taking a lot of black and white photos. I've once again found something I really love. Hope to have them up and ready for viewing soon.

I work primarily in Oil colors and Watercolor, although I have dabbled a little into WC/pastel too. Each has its own set of rules and subjects I find them best at so I use them for a variety of scenes.

To this point my art has been primarily an escape from the stress and pressures of everyday life, but I find myself drawn more and more to the idea of making it a full-time occupation. Maybe someday I can do this, but for now I must keep my Night Owl status and continue to work elsewhere to support a very expensive "habit".

Nature is my guide and teacher, and much of my free time is devoted to things that get me out into nature in search of those special places I want to capture in a painting or photograph. I enjoy fishing, hiking, canoeing, and golf which all affords me an incredible amount of time to get out and enjoy the natural surroundings. And to find those sometimes all elusive scenes to paint.

I am currently looking for new gallery representation. If you are a gallery representative and interested in seeing a portfolio of my work, please use the email link at the end of the home page. Please send contact information and I will send more information on my art for you to consider.
