“Six Degrees of Separation, Five Degrees of Anxiety” is an old work of mine that I first did in oil paint. It was a personal piece about identity, exploring how some people may view a minority race and a minority race may see themselves; reducing a person down to his or her occupation, intellect, and mannerism. This all based on the single character of their skin - the color and even the shade. I switched the medium of paint for photography four years ago. I decided to revisit the same idea of profiling since the whole nation has done so too and has found an excuse and comfort in doing so in this new age of security. |

The title of the piece is an equally important part of the work. It allows the audience to interact with the piece. The work itself is made up of five individual impressionistic photographs. To see the form, one would step back but to see the beauty and the subtleties of color, one should step close and allow the prints to dissolve. This act is just as important as the work itself. |
