The days run very slowly at the start of a vacation. All the time in the world to sit in the sun, walk on the beach ... to do nothing, which is everything that you really need to do.
And then, suddenly, you realize that the days are running down, and then there are but a few days remaining and you try to gather the sun and the smell of the ocean and the peace and quiet into yourself so that you can keep it with you throughout the coming work year.
You wonder how the dog will cope with being back in the city when it's really oneself that is the concern.
