HavaWHAT?
If you just stumbled upon this site you are probably asking your self (or others) WHAT IN HEAVEN’S NAME IS A
HAVAESE???Well, here you go:
A
Havanese is a breed of dog originated in Cuba around the 1600s. At first they where only kept as pets of royalty, but fell out of favorite (as all do eventually) and because favorites of pheasants and circuses. Thought they are relatively rare now (around 4000 in the United States of America) they are rapidly increasing in number. And why not?
Havanese are sweet, cuddly, devoted, hypo-allergenic, easily trained, non-shedding, relatively easy to housebreak, and magnetize to kids of all ages (and visa versa!). They are pretty small (8 ½ to 11 ½ inches at the shoulders [AKC], 7-10 pounds [AKC]), but are zesty enough to be a good companion.HOWEVER, there are some drawbacks to owning a
Havanese. They need to be groomed several times a week (every day to ever-other day in full coat) and can be very very, ‘talky.’ And their bark is high-pitched and shrill. They are however trainable enough that you can generally mute it a little. Before you buy a
Havanese (or any other breed for that matter) please do your research and make sure it’s the right dog for you!!
