More about Havanese
Without going into the breed Standard…..
Havanese
stand about 8 ½ to 11 ½ inches at the shoulders. They weight 7 to 10 pounds, so are big enough to keep your entire lap warm, but small enough not to cut off circulation to your legs. They also have a nice layer of warm, long, insulated hair that acts as a nice hot water bottle on cold nights. And trust me, there is one place a Havanese would rather be then at your feet...ON YOUR LAP! These are extreme people dogs and hate when you are out of site. And their small size and friendly nature makes it quite convenient to take them public places…Havanese
are hypoallergenic, and don’t shed. However, they are high up-keep. If they are in full show coats, they should be brushed at least every other day (more in late spring and early fall) and bathed every two weeks; medium coat should be brushed three times a week (more in late spring and early fall) and bathed every third week; short coats once a week (more in late spring and early fall) and bathed once a month; in shaved coat, well, brushing when there is enough coat to brush and bathing every six to eight weeks. They should also have routine eye and ear cleaning and nail trimming. A visit to a professional groomer every six to eight weeks for a good, to-the-skin brushing and a bath. If you are not showing them, you should also have the groomer trim their coats. In the show ring, a trimmed coat (except around feet) is a disqualification.Havanese
’s temperament is unbeatable. They are sweet and happy; they can make you happier then a Prozac drip without the side affects. They make you forget about your hardships of life as you bury your face in the warm fuzzy as a tongue happily cleans your ears and a tail hits you against your temple over and over again. They are a ray of sunshine in a dark, stormy world; a rose among the thorns.
