T.S. PELLEW IS A UNIT BASED IN THE COUNTY TOWN OF TRURO IN CORNWALL.RECORDS SHOW THAT THE FIRST SEA CADET UNIT IN CORNWALL WAS IN TRURO.

1960 – THE FIRST KNOWN SEA CADET UNIT IN CORNWALL IS OPENED AS T.S. CORNWALL WITH 65 ENROLLED CADETS. COMMANDING OFFICER LT(SCC) HOLMES RNR

1962 - THE UNIT PROVIDED A GUARD OF HONOUR FOR THE QUEEN MOTHER VISITING TRURO.

1969 – DUE TO A LACK OF STAFF T.S. CORNWALL IS FORCED TO CLOSE.

1978 – A MEETING OF INTERESTED PEOPLE FORMED A NEW SEA CADET UNIT IN TRURO KNOWN AS T.S. PELLEW. COMMANDING OFFICER LT(SCC)TUNSTALL RNR

1979 – TRURO UNIT OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED INTO THE SEA CADET CORPS AND NUMBERED AS 495.

1981 – CADETS FROM T.S. PELLEW HOISTED THE FLAG ON THE QUEENS MOTHERS VISIT TO TRURO THEY ALSO MARCHED THROUGH TRURO TO ESCORT MINISTRY OF DEFENCE POLICEMEN ON A SPONSORED WALK.

1985 – T.S. PELLEW MOVED INTO THEIR FIRST PERMANENT UNIT HEADQUARTERS AT MALPAS.

1986 - DUE TO A LACK OF STAFF UNIT NUMBERS REACHED AN ALL TIME LOW OF 12.

1988 – A NEW COMMANDING OFFICER WAS APPOINTED S/LT(SCC)M.CHAPPELL SCC. HIS ENTHUSIASM SAW NEW STAFF BROUGHT IN AND CADET NUMBERS SOON GREW.

1989 – T.S. PELLEW REACHED THE REQUIRED STANDARD TO FORM A GNTC (GIRLS NAUTICAL TRAINING CONTINGENT) SECTION. THE NUMBER OF CADET NOW REACHED 40.

1990 – T.S. PELLEW REACHED SUCH A HIGH POINT IT BECAME A FORMIDEABLE FORCE NOT ONLY IN THE CORNWALL DISTRICT BUT ALSO IN THE SOUTH WEST AREA.

1992 – T.S. PELLEW MOVED TO A NEW HEADQUARTERS AT NEWHAM INDUSTRIAL ESTATE THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME HAD MORE THAN 2 TRAINING ROOMS.

1993 – T.S. PELLEW WAS NOW THE BEST UNIT OUT OF 5 IN CORNWALL AND WAS AT THE REQUIRED STANDARD TO FORM A MARINE CADET DETACHMENT. BY THE END OF THIS YEAR CADET NUMBERS HAD REACHED THE MID 70’S.

1994 – TO MAKE THE UNIT COMPLETE A JUNIOR SECTION WAS FORMED FOR YOUNGER CADETS AGED 10 TO 12,

1995 – THE FIRST LEUITENANT. LT(SCC)N JONES RNR WAS APPOINTED AS THE NEW COMMANDING OFFICER AND THE UNIT WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED BY THE LORD LIEUTENANT OF CORNWALL LADY MARY HOLBOROW.

1998 – DUE TO A LACK OF QUALIFICATIONS AND BOATS NUMBERS, DROPED TO 30. A NEW COMMANDING OFFICER LT(SCC) G DYER WAS APPOINTED WHICH COINCIDED WITH THE RECRUITMENT OF SOME MORE EXPERIENCED STAFF.

THE FUTURE – THINGS ONCE AGAIN ARE LOOKING UP FOR T.S. PELLEW AND NUMBERS ARE GRADUALLY RISING WITH THE ADDITION OF EXTRA BOATING ACTIVITIES. WHY NOT BECOME A PART OF THE NEW ERA AND JOIN.
