THE SEA CADET CORPS

 

Our Aims

The Sea Cadet Corps are a Nationwide, voluntary, uniformed youth organisation open to young people aged 10-12 years(and with Junior Sections for those of 10 to 12 years) regardless of sex, religion or race and, within the bounds of safety to themselves and others, to those with special needs.

The Aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy.

The three sections in the Sea Cadet Corps are:

  • SEA CADETS: BOYS AND GIRLS AGED 12 TO 18 YEARS
  • JUNIOR SECTION: BOYS AND GIRLS AGED 10 TO 12 YEARS
  • MARINE CADETS: BOYS ONLY AGED 13 TO 18 YEARS.

SEA CADET CORPS PROMISE

(THIS MUST BE SAID WHEN YOU ARE ENROLLED TO YOUR UNIT)

I PROMISE TO SERVE MY GOD, THE QUEEN, MY COUNTRY AND THE SEA CADET CORPS, AND TO OBEY THE ORDERS OF MY SUPERIOR OFFICERS.

I WILL BE PROUD OF MY UNIFORM, BE SMART AND SEAMANLIKE IN WEARING IT AND ALWAYS DO MY DUTY.

Training on the Sea Cadets is split into 2 parts:

Part 1

Is a mandatory syllabus that cadets must become proficient in before being promoted. The main sections are:

  • SCC Knowledge

  • Parade Training
  • Ship’s Routine
  • BoatWork
  • Health & Hygene
  • Basic Seamanship
  • First aid
  • Fire prevention
  •  

    Part 2

    These are proficiency badges that are gained from Unit, District, Area, or National courses or from civilian qualifications such as the Royal Yachting Association or the Duke of Edinburghs award scheme. Each proficiency gives a certain number of points which will count towards the point that you need for promotion. See Rates in the SCC.
