Seth Enslow

Introductions

MXworld.com: Hey Seth, how are you doing?

Seth: Not to bad, just hanging out and talking to some friends.

MXworld.com: I run MXworld.com and I was wondering if you be interested in telling me what you think? It doesn’t have to be about motocross; it can be about what you did last weekend or whatever is on your mind.

Seth: Yeah, OK

MXworld.com: I don’t know if you are interested or not, but I want to give you a place to talk and say whatever you think. I’m getting sick of (magazine name deleted). They just tell it their way and nobody has a chance to say what they think.

Seth: Yeah, magazines are so fucking religious and it's bullshit.

MXworld.com: I don’t want to sound like I am coming down on them too hard, it’s just that they bad mouth free riding and that’s the reason I got into this. I learned to ride in pits and all I ever did was ride around and look for things to jump. I never got into this for the racing and motocross, I do it because I love to jump.

Seth: I know what you mean.

MXworld.com: Do you do much with the Internet?

Seth: No, I don’t have a computer but I hear there is some stuff out there about me.

MXworld.com: Where do you wanna start?

Seth: How about I just tell some of the stuff that's been going on.

MXworld.com: Sounds good.

Life on the Road

Seth: Last week I got back from Costa Rica where we were filming Crusty 4. We spent 7 days there and I got back in town last Thursday at midnight. Then I got up at 6AM and flew to Pennsylvania for an autograph signing. I went to Doublin Gap and stayed with the Shippenbergs and we spent the day signing Black Fly posters and hanging out with Bubba from AXO. There were about 500 riders and around 1000 people altogether.

Seth: I got back into town on Monday and spent the next couple days hanging out and relaxing from the trip. Yesterday I went riding with Carey Hart and Brian Manley in Temeculah. We did a few jumps and had some fun.

Seth: Next week I am flying to Italy for 2 ½ weeks to do some more filming for Crusty 4 and then we are going to make a side trip to Amsterdam to do some sightseeing.

Seth plans to spend July "chilling" with friends, riding and doing some autograph sessions. This will be his chance to relax before attending the premieres of Fresno Smooth and Crusty Demons of Dirt 4.

What does Seth want to be when he grows up? He wants to work as a stuntman and hopes that Fresno Smooth will open those doors for him and get him noticed. Ever since he was a child, he was wanted to do that and he hopes that sometime in the near future he will be able to achieve his goal.

Seth: I think I’m going to be doing this at least until 2000. I have a one-year contract with Shift and I just signed a two-year deal with them.

For the past year, his job has been making videos and it sounds like a dream job, but life wasn’t always this glamorous.

Seth: I started working when I was 13. I’ve done all kinds of jobs to just to get where I am right now. I have worked on a farm and done construction.

Seth: It hasn’t been easy, but because of hard work, dedication and drive you can accomplish your goals.

The Vegas Jump

Seth: I jumped it a few times. I cased it the first time and tacoed my front wheel. I just came up short and put the tranny on the jump. After that I did it a few more times and it was OK. It was pretty easy because the jump had a plateau and a drop off, that way if you jump too far you just hop and land on the downslope.

Seth: It was a natural Evil Knievel style jump because of the plateau and good downslope on the back side. You just have to hit it in 5th.

The fountains

MXworld.com: I read somewhere that you want to jump the fountains. What’s the deal.

Seth: Yeah, I’ve been wanting to do that jump for a while and make some change. I don’t know if it will happen because I heard they may be tearing out the fountains. I want to jump it, but if they tear it down I’ll find something else to jump. I want to take some money away from Robbie Knievel, he’s a spode.

MXworld.com: Yeah, I watched him do a jump and before he did it he said he was gonna do a no hander. All I saw was just a blur.

Seth: Yeah, Robbie’s gay.* I don’t think that much of him. He really isn’t too good. I just want to do the jump and get some attention. I want to buy a house and live good. I mean, I’m doing OK now and everything, but I want something for the future.

Seth: I’m going to get some ramps, get the angle down and set them right distance and just jump them over and over. It’s not that big a deal, I’ve jumped 170 feet consistently. Then I’m gonna put some obstacle in between them and set it up like where I’m going to do the jump. Put some stuff in the way to make it right.

Today

Seth: I’m going to Sea World with my old lady.

MXworld.com: The one in San Diego?

Seth: Yeah.

MXworld.com: I tried to go there once, but they were closed you better call. I used to live in San Clemente so I’ve been down that way before.

Seth: Where do you live now?

MXworld.com: In Texas. You’d be surprised; there are some pretty good tracks here.

Seth: While I was in Mexico I hung out with Grayson Goodman, Brad Woolsey and they told me all about the tracks. Grayson is from Dallas.

The Wrist

MXworld.com: I was watching one of the movies and I wanted to ask you about your wrist. What was up with that? It didn't look too natural.

Seth: Yeah. I dislocated my wrist and chipped a couple bones. It hurt pretty fuckin bad.

MXworld.com: When I first saw it I thought how the hell did the happen. Then I looked at it again and saw how far you jumped and the bike just stopped. It didn't leave you anywhere to go.

Seth: It wouldn't have been so bad, but I landed on the tranny. If I would have gotten a wheel on the hill I could have made it. I dislocated it and it pinched a nerve so it fuckin hurt.

Free Riding

Seth: I think free style is good for the sport. I think it brings attention to it and free riding is going to open doors for people. Pretty soon we will have two things that you can do, you can do free riding or you can race. That’ll be great for kids and for the sport because they can do what they like to do. You will be able to make money just going around and jumping. I really think it’s good for the sport.

Seth: You won’t see me doing any no footed can cans or saran wraps. It’s not for me because of my build.

MXworld.com: What about your build?

Seth: I’m 6’1" and weigh about 190lbs with gear. And I’m just not flexible enough. I try doing one footed can cans with the bike on the stand and my foot hangs up on the tank. I’m just not flexible enough, besides for me it’s not about tricks, it’s how long you can hang in the air.

MXworld.com: I know what you mean. I’m 6’2" and weigh about 190lbs. I try doing stretching exercises but it only lasts for two days.

Seth: (Laughs) Same here. I just don’t have the patience for that kind of thing.

MXworld.com: So you don’t want to do stretching exercise like Jean-Claude VanDamme, strung out between two chairs with your nuts laying on the floor as you hear the crack of your pelvis?

Seth: No, not really. I’d rather get some air.

MXworld.com: Thanks for talking to me Seth. You wanna chit chat once and awhile and let me know what’s up?

Seth: Yeah why don’t you check back with me once and a while and I’ll let you know what’s going on. I’ll call you if anything interesting happens.

Seth: Gotta go, I’m taking my old lady to Sea World to look at some fish.

Editors note. I told Seth that I would not censor him and I won’t. When he described Robbie as gay, he was not implying that he was a homosexual, he was saying that Robbie isn’t that good. I’m sure I will get some comments on this, but folks I agree with Seth. Robbie has done nothing for the sport of motocross. Nada. He comes out once every couple years, does a calculated jump and packs up his money and leaves. Seth may be a lot of things, but he is definitely a showman and he impresses my non-riding friends more than Robbie.

Testing on Friday was canceled because of bad weather, Saturday would have to be
a dry run - no testing. The weather was good and a window opened up for perfect
jump conditions. "Saturday was sunny and calm - just perfect - everyone knew that
this was destiny and all the forces were working in our favor," said Brian "Lofty"
Jordan, Seth's manager.

Jumping distance calculated 230 feet (world record 223' Robby Kneivel),
in-between the ramps were 1 million dollars worth of Harley's...80 bikes total. The
jump was designed to give Seth lots of height as well as distance for the jump! The
take off, air time, body position and landing were picture perfect. Seth landed in the
zone which was calculated from the start BUT as the bikes suspension compressed
to there max the bike started to disintegrate. The Applied triple clamps shattered
and the bike started to break in two. The forks, fender, front wheel and bars
completely broke away from the bike. "The whole front end as I was holding it
broke off and flew past my head," Seth said. As the bike's front end took an exit
stage left, what was left of Seth's bike (which he was still on) was grinding to a
disastrous halt. The first thing to hit was Seth's face, then it was tumble, roll, tumble, roll for a while, until Seth
came to a stand still. Many people feared the worst and thought this could be the end of Seth's career. After many
minutes had passed with Seth lying on the ground with medics checking him over, Seth got up under his own power
said, "Let's sign some autographs."

A new record was officially announced over LAS VEGAS NEWS STATIONS... 229 feet. As a kid, many of us dreamt
of being a fireman or an astronaut or a stuntman. As you get older these dreams seam to fade away for most of us.
Seth Enslow had a childhood dream of being a daredevil and breaking world records. I guess some people's dreams
do come true.

With this latest stunt, SETH ENSLOW has now carved his place in history and hopefully will get the respect he
deserves as one of the sports legends and a true daredevils.

Q: How do you top the Seth Enslow jump in Crusty 1 which was one of the biggest crashes caught on tape?

A: You jump over 80 Harley's, break your bike in two pieces on the landing, shattering the world distance record,
and walk away without any broken bones to go sign autographs !!!!! If ya get any photos of the jump, please send
me some in an email.

Seth has been workin' it hard lately preparing for upcoming events. When contacted for the web update . . . "Yeah, yeah . . .
I just busted a nut, just before I got on the phone. It worked out perfect." He was in the shop hangin' with a blonde.

After two years of close calls, as seen in Crusty 1&2, Seth figured if he wanted to stay alive he had best tone it down a bit.
He'd escaped a ridiculous 150+ footer and turned a row of bikes in to a set of dominos. This year, no big crash but worse
injuries."Yeah, I didn't have any big crash this year. I wish I did do something ridiculous and got less hurt than hitting this little
stuff and getting hurt worse. I was in that coma in January then I buckled my wrist, then I hurt the other one, in June or July . .
.". It's a known fact though that Seth's a big jump guy, not a dialed Sunday tweaker who lays it flat on that same old table top
lap after lap.

That was never really the goal for Seth. He's all about leaping large. The latest in the works is a Caesar's Palace Fountain
jump. The same one Evil Knievel and his son Robbie have done. Knievel busted it on a Harley, "which probably weighed
three times my bike ", Seth estimates, "Robbie ran it on a 500 Honda.". Seth wants to do it on a Honda 250. "I'm ready to
huck the fountains . . . I wanna build the jumps like 12 feet tall so I'll be about 50 feet in the air. I'll do it. I'll do it twice. I'll do
it once, then I'll do it again for an encore. I heard it's like 150 feet. That's what 'EK' said when he walked it out, about 145 to
150 when he got his Harley wingin'." . . . Seth's done bigger. The 'Vegas' jump built for Crusty III was said to be about 170.
That is accomplised by being 5th wide open on a 250. "When Knievel jumped the fountains his ramp was about 10 feet high,
he was only about twenty feet or so, maybe 25, feet off the ground. I want to make the ramps like twelve feet and have it
huck me straight up." The plan is to have the lander a few feet higher than the take off and leave some flat, then the
downramp. Seth's confident that going higher is better than low with a faster landing speed. "That way if you miss it and land
in the flat or whatever, you know, you might have a little buckle, bust a wheel or somethin' . . .". Riding this year for Shift,
AFAM, Acerbis Plastics, Dunlop, Answer, Pro Taper, Black Fly's and Honda, Seth hopes the jump will a) "be on pay per
view and make alot of money , then I'll have some tax guy chasin' me around.", and b) Start a new career in Hollywood for
commercial and stuntwork.
