Carpe Dieme

I walked along the river bed
Marvelling at nature's benevolence
When all at once I heard
The sound of an absolute nuisance.

I stopped, I turned....
UGH what was that smell,
Grotesque, horrid and foul
A dead pig....that was all.

Half a pig, may be worse than none
For one who has nought
But for a brahmin mind
A pig was worse than none.

The river bed turned nauseating
Flies, fleas and all that was revolting
Stale blood and bones was all I saw
No nature's bounty,
only a yaw.

I fled, as only the sick could flee
But the faster I went the longer I stayed
My wheel got stuck in the muck
Heck, what can I say.......I felt like a schmuck!

A bath, a shower was what I yearned
No food, just a purer spirit
A poor dead animal lingered on
My overgroomed memory.

Now I look back and think
What was the thought, what was the link?
It was a poor dead creature, a child of nature
Yet I was repulsed, I needed respite
I felt I was way up in stature.

One day it will be me,
A poor dead body
No one will want to touch me
No one will be around me!
Then others will run, repulsed and revolted
When I return to the dust, unknown, unlamented.
