The Botanical Garden was a project of the club during the time of past president Arlene Sanchez. Its aim is to tell people that there are many herbal alternatives from high-cost medicines. The club gathered seeds of herbal plants and planted them in a vacant space in school. The soil was plowed and made fertile by applying fertilizers. In entering the garden, you will see and arc saying, "SCS Botanical Garden". Plants and trees were planted such as guava tree, pandan, mansanilla, oregano, aloe vera, pansit-pansitan, garlic, onion, papaya, and many more. The garden was filled with healthy herbal plants. The interactors watered the garden everyday. We hope you try to make your own Botanical Garden.
Eversince the club started, its major project every year is the Reach-out Program for the Needy. Each year, together with the Supreme Student Council, the club distributes tickets to less-fortunate individuals. What's unique about this project is that we also have a Christmas Party for the poor children. Only kids from 3-10 years old are admitted for the Reach-out program. Their chaperons stay in the waiting shed of the school. Before entering the campus, they have to show us the tickets we distributed.
During the program, there are games (of course with prizes), intermission numbers, and a snack. All the goods, to be distributed at the end of the program, were donated by the students of South Crest School. These goods are in plastics and contain rice, coffee, old clothes, toys, canned food, noodles, etc. At the end of the program, we distribute the goods. The ACP's (the military corps of the school) help the children. They escort the children to their chaperons. Finally, the program is over. Every year, before Christmas, the IAC of South Crest School does its best to make the children smile amidst the problems of the country.
The Interact Club of South Crest School from the Rotary Club of Muntinlupa North put up an International Friendship Bulletin Board last October 16, 1999. In it, you may read the messages of different interact clubs from all over the world to Filipino interactors. Most were sent through email, but some were individual letters for a certain interactor. It was actually the outcome of the pen pal project launched this year in the campus for interactors.
The participating interact clubs were from Malaysia, Sabah, Cayman Islands, South Africa, England, Ecuador, Argentina, Sri Lanka, and USA. They all wanted to say Hi and Hello to everyone here in our country especially the interactors. This is the first time for South Crest School to accomplish a tie-up with other interact clubs. They talk about their projects and ask for each other's help.
This is a good project for it accomplishes the meaning of the interact club - International youth service.
A Symposium for Drug Awareness and Prevention was held at South Crest School last Nov. 12. All high school students attended. It was a project of the Interact Club of South Crest School. Its main aim was to educate the students about the bad effects of prohibited drugs and how to prevent them. Truly, it was a success.
The students were divided into two. The Seniors and Sophomores were in the function room, while the Juniors and Freshmen were in the kinder room. The programs ran simultaneously. It both started with a prayer followed by Opening Remarks from Jay Santiago, IAC president, and Eunice Venus, IAC president-elect in different rooms. The speaker in the function room was Chief Superintendent Juvenile Sulapas, while Chief Inspector Anatacio Acabo was the speaker in the other room. President Ed Talla of RC Muntinlupa North also gave a short message in both programs.
The Symposium ended successfully. There was a picture taking with the speakers. They were escorted to the office of the Directress, where they ate. Summing up everything, the symposium was a result of cooperation, sweat, and good planning. The school and the Interact Club hopes to develop drug-free individuals with this project.
This project primarily aims to make use of old but useable books for donation to a needy school. The project started with proper planning and coordination. As early as May 1999, a project proposal has been passed to the principal for approval.
By September 1999, the Interact Club looked for a depressed school. Finally, a school in Pagsanjan, Laguna was found. It was the San Isidro Elementary School, a small barrio school. We looked at their library, and it was a real mess. There were very old books.
With a target school, the Interact Club with their adviser, Miss Salazar, started to plan on what to do. A room-to-room campaign was held. The Club asked for the support of the students. They were asked to bring old and new books. The Club was so happy for the enthusiasm shown by the students.
During the first week of December, the donated books were segregated. Very old books and useable books were separated. The very old books were sold to the junk shop for P150. The money was used to buy rubber stamps. The club had a fund of P3,500, which was used for the rental of transportation (P1000) and buying of new books (P1500) from different book companies.
The books were placed in 5 boxes. They were labeled, and secured. They are now ready for the project.
December 19, 1999 was the big day. We left for Pagasanjan at around 6:00 a.m. We arrived at the school at around 8:00 a.m. We were welcomed with a program. There were presentations and the students really worked hard to practice. Finally, the turn-over of donations started. The administrators of San Isidro Elementary School were so happy to receive such donations. They were so thankful. All our hardships vanished as we saw the smile from the children’s faces.
We stayed in Pagsanjan till 3:00 p.m. Finally, we off to Muntinlupa. Again, the Interact Club of South Crest School fulfilled its mission to help the needy.
Again, job well done! Mission fulfilled when the Interact Club of SCS visited San Isidro Elementary School in Pagsanjan , Laguna. It has always been a passion of SCS to help and serve the school. As a yearly vocation, SCS donates materials needed ( such as books, for the library, book shelves, clothes, and packed goods). For this year, the Interact Club of SCS donated science intruments and classroom visual materials ( informative posters ), clothes, and packed goods.
This project primarily aims to help the students of South Crest School to pass from the Main to the Annex building of the school especially during rainy days. This is the main school project of the Interact Club this school year 1999-2000.
During rainy days, the Interact club notices that students get wet while passing from the main to the annex building because there is no roof. The club thought of a solution. We have to build a covered pathway.
Initial plans were discussed last August 1999. The Club joined the Mr. And Miss Interact Club to support the said project. Tickets were distributed among the students of South Crest School. Thankfully, as the fund raising competition ended, Miss Eunice Venus, the IAC South Crest representative, won the title. As a prize, the Club received a certain amount.
The said amount was used to fund the “Covered Pathway Project”. Materials were bought and construction workers were hired. It was made during the holiday break. As the holiday break ended, so as the pathway was finished.
Now, as it rains, there is no hassle in passing from one building to another.
In response to the government's campaign to recycle and reduce waste matters, Interact Club of SCS has initiated the waste segregation program in the school. To do this, four boxes were placed in each room labeled as biodegradable, non-biodegradable, papers and wrappers, and bottles and cans, where the students are supposed to throw their trash.Strict implementation was done because it is an effort by the club to spare the environment from the effects of pollution. It was hard at first but the efforts were paid off, as the students themselves adapted on the new scheme. Another success story!
On October 21, 2001, the Interact Club of South Crest School joined the Outreach and Feeding Program, bearing the theme " Handog ng Kabataan, Para Sa Kabataan" organized by the Youth Development Program in cooperation with the Muntinlupa Scholar's Scoiety. It was held at Buli Elementary School.
We assisted by arranging chairs and tables. The Interact Club of South Crest School and Muntinlupa Scholars plus some officers of the Youth Development Office participated by covering activities such as feeding of at least 200 less-fortunate children, and giving donations like groceries, coffee, milk, and uncooked rice to at least 200 families. There were also parlor games enjoyed by the children and prizes for the winners. Happiness and satisfaction, as seen through the eyes of the less-fortunate children was uncomparable. In our own little ways, and in the eyes of God, we brought them love and care.
On October 28,2001, the Interact Club of South Crest School participated in the Dental and Medical Mission of the Muntinlupa Scholars Society and Youth Development Office. Working with the professionals, we experienced and felt the meaning of "love and care". There, we realized how sincere the participants in performing their vocation to humanity. We played the roles of "little doctors and little nurses" when we were given the chance to assist the medical team in performing their tasks, like how to use the thermometer, giving of medicines, and assisting the disable.
As a " legacy" to the school, different kitchen utensils were donated by the Interact Club members to help students familiarize themselves with the different types of kitchen utensils. Its completion will in a way, help the school to provide their students with good, quality education.
