Chimney Rock Park, North Carolina
This was a one day trip that Liz and I took with Mike Winegardner and Jill Sherer (soon to be Winegardner). We left on Saturday October 11, 2003 around 9am and, after a rainy 2 hour drive, we arrive at Chimney Rock Park, North Carolina (it's privately owned). When we arrived, the skies cleared and turned out to be a great sunny day in the upper 60s. We spent about 3 active hours of hiking from noon to 5:30pm. We had a great time and would recommend it to everyone. What a national treasury.

Full view of Hickory Nut Falls. Is is a 404 ft fall starting at an elevation of 2,450 ft.
Another view of Hickory Nut Falls.
Here's Mike going through Wildcat Trap. As you can see, it is a very narrow passage.
Here's Mike again going through the Subway. It is a tunnel passage of about 20 ft in length.
Here is Liz coming down Needle's Eye.
It was dark, narrow and wet. I am glad we went down, instead of up the 60-80 steps.
Here is another view of Hickory Nut Falls from the bottom. We accessed it via Forest Stroll Trail.
