- APPROX. 1902, STEFAN & HIS BROTHER IGNATIUS JURYSTYJ & THEIR MOTHER APOLINA EMMIGRATED FROM THE VILLAGE OF UVISLA, HUSIATYN DISTRICT, TERNOPOL REGION, WESTERN UKRAINE. THEY LEFT BEHIND A BROTHER, A SISTER, AND THEIR FATHER (JOHN JURYSTY), WHICH THEY WERE NEVER REUNITED WITH AGAIN. |

- IGNATIUS & KATHERINE(KALORZYNA ZYWINA) YURISTY SETTLED ON A HOMESTEAD AT : SW 2-24-9-2 S. OF GOODEVE, SASKATCHEWAN. LATER, IN 1904, HNAT DONATED A SMALL CLEARED PORTION OF LAND TO THE ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH, WHICH WAS BUILT IN 1906. THE BUILDING WAS 36' X 20' . THIS CHURCH WAS LATER TORN DOWN, AND A SMALL CEMETERY CHAPLE WAS BUILT TO REPLACE IT WHICH STILL EXISTS TODAY, ALONG WITH A PLAQUE, AND THE FAMILY CEMETERY. PAULINE YURISTY (STEFAN & HNAT'S MOTHER), METRO YURISTY (HNAT'S SON) & MICHAEL YURISTY (STEFAN'S SON) ARE INTERRED AT THIS CEMETERY. THE PRESENT CHURCH SITE WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1934 ON A FIVE ACRE PARCEL, PURCHASED IN 1910 BY IVAN DENESIUK FOR $150.00. |

- STEFAN JURYSTYJ WAS GIVEN A GOVERNMENT GRANT TO PURCHASE THIS LAND WHICH WAS RECORDED OCTOBER 27, 1910, FOR SOUTH EAST QUARTER SECTION OF 28, CONTAINING BY AD MEASUREMENT ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY (160) ACRES. |

- THE ORIGINAL CHURCH OF THE EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS WAS BUILT IN 1909 BY PARISHERS, 2 MILES SOUTH OF HUBBARD. WHICH WAS LATER ENLARGED AND RENOVATED IN 1918. (IT'S BELEIVED THIS CHURCH WAS ON STEFAN'S PROPERTY- WE'RE TRYING TO PROVE EITHER WAY.) - SOUTH OF HUBBARD HISTORICAL DATA: THE FIRST SETTLERS THAT CAME TO THIS AREA WAS THE KORCHINSKY FAMILY IN 1903 FROM STRYJ, WESTERN UKRAINE. OTHER PIONEERING FAMILIES THAT IMMIGRATED TO THIS AREA EXTENDED TO 1910. |

- STEFAN YURISTY'S ELDEST SON MIKE EVENTUALLY MARRIED AND WENT ON HIS OWN. PETER YURISTY THEN MOVED BACK TO THE FARM TO HELP HIS YOUNGER BROTHER NICK, WHEN HE WAS 20 YEARS OLD. THEY BOTH HAD THEIR OWN PORTION OF THE FARM TO RUN, WORKING FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING. EVENTUALLY THEY BOTH DECIDED TO RENT THE FARM TO MERVIN ROSS, AS THEY WERE UNABLE TO ACQUIRE MORE LAND TO MAKE IT MORE PRODUCTIVE. PETER MOVED TO REGINA TO WORK AT SEARS FOR THE NEXT 27 YEARS, WHILE NICK MOVED TO KIMBERLEY TO GET ON AT THE KIMBERLEY FRTILIZER PLANT, WHERE HE WORKED FOR THE NEXT 25 YEARS. |

- LUCAS AND IRENE EMMIGRATED FROM UVISLA (UVYSLA), TERNOPOL'S'KA, UKRAINE WITH THREE CHILDREN FROM PREVIOUS MARRIAGES- KATHERINE/ KALOZYNA AND NELLIE ARE FROM LUCUS' FIRST MARRIAGE, AND JOHN IS FROM IRENE'S FIRST MARRIAGE. MARY ZYWINA WAS BORN IN 1902 IN CANADA TO LUCAS AND IRENE.
THE FAMILY LIVED IN A CAVE CARVED INTO THE HILLSIDE, PROPPED UP AND COVERED WITH POPLAR AND WILLOW POLES, AND PLASTERED INSIDE WITH CLAY.
LUCAS WORKED AT ODD JOBS UNTIL HE ACQUIRED A PAIR OF OXEN TO WORK THE FARM. |

- NICK AND MARY (ZYWINA) KOWALCHUK TOOK OVER THE ZYWINA HOMESTEAD WHICH CONSISTED OF ONE QUARTER OF LAND, A COUPLE OF HORSES, A SMALL HERD OF CATTLE, AND A NEW THREE BEDROOM LOG HOUSE. LATER, MIKE AND ANNIE(KOWALCHUK) YURISTY TOOK OVER THE FARM(3RD GENERATION). |

- MIKE, THE ELDEST SON OF STEVE AND ANNIE, AND HIS WIFE ANNIE(KOWALCHUK, ZYWINA) YURISTY TOOK OVER ANNIE'S FAMILY FARM AFTER THEY MARRIED. THE HOMESTEAD WAS A SELF SUPPORTING FARM WHICH CONSISTED OF CHICKENS, TURKEYS, DUCKS, PIGS, CATTLE, AND DAIRY COWS WHICH THEY SOLD THE CREAM AND MILK TO PAY FOR THEIR GROCERIES. THEY GREW MOSTLY WHEAT, OATS, AND BARLEY, AND HAD THEIR OWN GARDEN FOR FRESH VEGETABLES.

- LAWRENCE, MIKE AND ANNIE'S THIRD CHILD , AND HIS WIFE GLORIA (KOLODNISKI) YURISTY TOOK OVER THE FAMILY FARM IN THE FALL OF 1973, WHEN HIS PARENTS MOVED TO MELVILLE, SASKATCHEWAN. THEY BUILT A HOG FARM IN 1974, WHICH WAS LARGE PART OF THEIR FARMING OPERATION UNTIL APPROX. 1984. THEN THEY HAD A HERD OF CATTLE WHICH WAS THEIR ECONOMIC MAINSTAY, ALONG WITH A HORSE, CHICKENS, GEESE, AND A COUPLE OF PET SHEEP.
LAWRENCE AND GLORIA'S CHILDREN ARE THE 5TH GENERATION OF FAMILY ON THIS LAND. LAWRENCE'S GREAT- GRANDPARENTS, LUCAS AND IRENE ZYWINA (SCHEWINA) HOMESTEADED THE SW 4-24-9-2 IN 1909. |
