Let me tell you why I have a page about Becky® even though she isn't a "Barbie®" doll. When I was growing up I had a friend in a wheelchair. We were good friends for many years. I heard rumors that she wouldn't live to see 18 years old and that bothered me so much. I remember when she was very young running through the neighborhood, a regular tomboy. Then progressively she got worse. She has a form of muscular dystrophy. We became friends and shared a lot of girlhood secrets and encountered a lot of "firsts" together. She was a normal person to me and all our friends, the only difference was that she was in a wheelchair. She grew up to have several boyfriends and she eventually married one of these boys. She is now almost 40 years old and married and happy in Conn. I haven't talked to her in years but when she came home for her brothers wedding I heard she wasn't doing real well in that the disease hadn't stopped progressing but she is happy and has lived many more years than many people said she would. So Share a smile Becky® really reminds me of my youth and that one special friend I had that was "different" but not really. This page is for you G.....and I hope you know that every time I look at her, I will think of you and our special friendship.
