Update: June 2002

Here's a submission from a fan of the game. It is a promo photo to promote the game at Comdex.
Also, Bruce Smith, the author of the Quest for Clues entry has a website so if you want to go there, here's the link:

Recently discovered in an abandoned software warehouse, I have a limited number of these mint, unused Holograms which were put on the games boxes of the short-issued Dondra Computer Game. Place an order now to own of a few of these limited number of holograms and own a piece of Computer Adventure Game History. Each purchase helps to keep this site up and running and also to add new and exciting Dondra related content.

This was my first adventure game I played when I first got my Apple IIGS in 1988. I chose it as a replacement for a failed GATO game as Spectrum Holobyte no longer sold the game. I can remember spending hours trying to solve its then difficult puzzles by typing various commands into the parser. The puzzle which took me the longest was the first puzzle, the infamous green hexagon room. Upon learning of a hint line from the new publisher, MicroIllusions, I harrassed the customer service department so much, they mailed me a walkthrough to keep me from calling. My father luckily hid the hint sheet and administered the hints while helping me to defeat this adventure. Upon its completion, I eagerly awaited a never to be released sequel.

This page is both a memorial and a forum for players both past and present of this game which takes a special place in my heart as it is my very first adventure game. If anyone has the IIGS version of this game, a copy would be greatly appeciated as I've never seen its enhanced graphics. Although in its infancy, this site will grow to include a walkthrough, screenshots, artwork and other relics of this classic adventure game. Any contributions are welcome and appreciated.

It began in 1987 as Dondra - A New Beginning a graphic adventure game designed for Spectrum Holobyte by a young designer named Sean B. Barger and ended in 1990 as Questmaster - The Prism of Heheutotol for Miles Computing Inc. Dondra was one of the classic graphic adventures of the 80's which helped lay the groundwork for today's graphical adventure games. It came out around the time of Sierra On-Line's King's Quest IV, another graphical adventure game which involved the use of a parser interface to interact with the character's environment. One feature Dondra did not share with the game however was a musical score and a cursor controlled 3-D Animated Character. For it's time though, Dondra was an amazing undertaking in that it incorporated 3 dimensional computer-color scenery, animated sequencs, an advanced parser system and also the unique ability to import your character into future installments which unfortunately were never released.

Dondra was sold to MicroIllusions around 1989 where the company promised to revive the game and promote it through an Apple IIGS and IBM PC port which included enhanced graphics. MicroIllusions sat on the game until it was passed on to another small software published, Miles Computing which released the game as Questmaster: Prism of Heheutotol and tried to pass it off as a new adventure renaming the world of Dondra, Ardnod. They did forget to change this in the opening scroll of the instruction manual however.
