Webmin - a nifty way of administering a Linux-Server
A while ago when I stumbled over a announcement of webmin in comp.os.linux.announce.
It is a webserver, completely written in perl, with several script modules
to view and edit a lot of the configuration files you normally need on
your Linux-Box.
From the Webmin-Page:
Webmin Modules
Version 0.51 of Webmin contains modules for:
-
Apache
Configure almost all Apache directives in versions 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. Note
this module is still undergoing testing.
-
Cron
Create, edit and delete cron jobs.
-
BIND DNS Server
Create and edit domains and various types of records.
-

packages.
-

-
Webmin Configuration
Change the admin username/password, web server port and list of allowed
hosts for the webmin server.
I personally used the dns, samba and init-modules and found them to work
properly and helping very much in adminstering my Server. It does not
prevent the need of reading some howtos, manuals or the like, put it helps
you to save a lot of work. You can find webmin at http://www.webmin.com/webmin/.
The installation worked without any trouble. Give it a try! If you encounter
any problems you can ask me if you like and I will give any help I can.
I would be pleased to hear from others that use this tool, the functions
they find useful and if there are any additional modules in the process
of beeing written or requested for.
