Digital Cable Stereo

Digital Cable Stereo is CD quality music provided by your TV cable service. Typicaly they provide many channels for different styles of music. Most will also provide you with the means of getting information about the song that you are listening to. It has been very difficult to obtain information about these units; the hardware, firmware, theory of operation etc. I hope that this web page will provide the medium for gathering and informing others of these units.

The following is the information I have gathered thus far and is based on the Jerold model DCR-4000 unit.

The DCR-4000 has 2 seperate circuit boards in it; the main board and the song I/O board.

The main board can be broken down into 5 sections:

1: DC POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT

2: TUNER / DEMODULATOR CIRCUIT

3: MICROPROCESSOR & SUPPORT CIRCUIT

4: AUDIO OUTPUT CIRCUIT

5: CONTROL PANEL & INFARED RECIEVER CIRCUIT

The DC POWER supply utilizes 120vac and produces 5, 9, and 12 volt outputs. There is a lithium battery on the main board also. The TUNER / DEMODULATOR circuit accepts the cable TV input, tunes in the desired frequencies and outputs a signal to a delta modulation system chip ( LC3518BL-15 ). From here the signal is processed by the 64 pin microprocessor ( M50747ESP ). This chip must contain the firmware needed to extract the digital information which produces the music. The check sum is $65BE. The signal also goes to the song I/O board which extracts the information about the song being listened to. The song I/O board also has a 64 pin micro ( M50747ESP )and a 27C64 -15 eprom memory chip ( check sum $12E5 ), a LC3564 8 x8 64K memory chip and infared reciever circuitry. After the signal is proccesed by the micros whats left should be stereo audio which gets outputed through standard audio circuitry.

As you can see I have very limited data on this technology. Please email if you have any addtional information or ideas on how to obtain it.
