CASA HOGAR ELIM
This orphanage was founded by Guadalupe Carmona in 1986.   Mrs. Carmona lived
near a womens prison and saw the need to help care for children of those
imprisoned.  She began with 16 children and now cares for 95 boys and girls ages
2 months to 17.  This orphanage is fortunate, so far, in that the donors who
committed to paying for utilities are still honoring their commitments.
However, the orphanage is in dire straits for the following items:
Food
Lotion or Vaseline
Socks; Clean used socks will be appreciated
Medicines including Tylenol (infants and children), Motrin (infants and
children), cough medicine (any brand), and Tinactin (or any fungal treatment)
Shampoo and bath soap
Detergent
Quilts
Insect Bombs
Paper; Toilet paper and tissue (Kleenex)
Batteries All sizes
Monetary donations should be sent payable to:
Casa Hogar Elim
c/o Guadalupe Carmona, Director
9555 Canvasback
Laredo, TX  78045

These children do not need toys but if you feel compelled to give a toy, please
do not donate any electronic gadgets or toys that require batteries.  Toys such
as coloring books, colors, balls, dolls, etc, are better suited.

My family and I are committed to delivering as many items as we can to help get
the orphanages through these tough times.  We will be making at least two
deliveries before Christmas and then once to twice a month thereafter.  I know
times are difficult right now but I hope you will consider donating something.
Even if you cannot donate at this time, please keep these children in your
prayers.  For those interested in donating or if you have any questions, please
email me at casocanas@msn.com

Thank you!

CASA HOGAR MONSENOR ENRIQUE TOMAS LOZANO
This orphanage was founded in 1946 and is only for girls.  There are 55 girls
ages 5 years to 22 years old.  Six Catholic nuns staff the facility.  Unlike
other orphanages, this orphanage does not force children to leave upon reaching
the age of 18.  Immediate orphanage needs are as follows:
Water heater The girls are bathing in cold water.
Food
Shampoo and bath soap
Detergent
Feminine products
Lotion or Vaseline
Paper products Toilet paper and tissue (Kleenex)
Monetary donations are needed to pay for the mounting gas bill which one well
meaning donor has not paid in months.  Currently, the balance due is about
$4,000 US.  Also, money is needed to help pay for the education of those who are
eighteen and above.  The Madres, as the nuns are known, have been pooling what
little resources they have to keep this girls in school.  If you send money,
please send checks or money orders payable to:

We at the Premiere Weekend Club have established a nationwide
infrastructure to promote Latino films through unconventional means.
For "Empire," we've got great people in every major city (and several
smaller ones!) passing out postcards, posters, buttons, and self-made
fliers at every major college with high Latino populations, at clubs,
coffeehouses, movie theaters, etc.

We now have the capacity to reach
over a million people nationwide with our e-mail blasts and will do so
for "Empire." The Premiere Weekend Club's task with "Empire" is to
organize the grass-roots promotional campaign, which means getting the
word out on the streets, speaking with passion about this film and this
company.

Central America's poorest children are starving to death. After years of
recurrent droughts and natural disasters, a food shortage is taking its
toll among the 8.6 million people who live in a drought belt that runs
through Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. And the dry season
is about to begin.
