God created man to have a relationship with Him. He even walked with Adam and Eve in the cool evening twilight! He had made man perfect, and because of this they could see God and know Him. He made them in His image, which meant they had (among other attributes) emotions, logic, a sense of humor and free choice. One day they chose to disobey God, severing the closeness and innocence of their relationship to Him. Because of that, sin was brought into the world.

All of us are sinners. Every single one of us! What is sin? Sin is anything less than perfection. Well the bad news is, God requires perfection to know Him, because He is perfect. He also requires perfection to get into heaven. Now you know as well as I do this is impossible. No one is perfect! Think about your life for a second...the places you've been, the people you have known...thoughts you have had....

All of us have done things we are not proud of.

But there is great news! John 3:16 states that "God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, and whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

You see, God loves you so much that he knew it would be impossible for you to be "good enough" to get into heaven. For that reason, Romans 5:8 says that "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus was perfect...without sin. Therefore he is the only way we can be saved!

That is amazing! Perhaps you are up late, reading this and thinking that no one has really done anything for you your whole life. Maybe your parents aren't the greatest, or your spouse is abusive. Maybe you have no money, no job, no friends. Or maybe your life feels fine, but in your quiet moments you think "Surely there is more to life than this." Or maybe you have gone to church your whole life and think you are saved because of this. Church cannot get you into heaven. Neither can the fact that you believe in God. Even Satan believes in God! There is a difference between having knowlege of Jesus in your head, and having a personal relationship with him in your heart.

The God of the entire universe loves YOU so much he died to save you from hell. Hell is a place NEVER intended for people to go to. That is why he has taken such great measures to let people know how to avoid going there! That is why you are reading these words right now. Think about it this way...let's say you heard on the news that a road you and your friend usually drive home on was flooded. The news warned and pleaded for all travellers to avoid that road or face injury. Wouldn't you call your friend and tell him or her about this? This is why God tells us the way to be saved. He doesn't want ANYONE to die and go to hell. He hates it! He came to give you abundant life, joy and freedom!

He knows everything about you. No matter what you have done. All he requires of you is to accept the free gift he offers. How can you do this?

Pray "God, I am a sinner--I am not perfect. I can't get into heaven on my own. Please come into my heart...into my life! I know Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I need you." Amen.

If you just prayed this prayer, then Jesus Christ has come to live in your heart! He has written your name in the book of life, and you will never die apart from him. In fact, did you know that the moment you prayed that prayer sincerely, the angels in heaven knew it and rejoiced?
