Bel and The Dragon
Thames st. Windsor, Berks B&R
01753 866056

Atmosphere & Design - Sweet place, wooden tables and chairs, great water color illustrations all over the walls. Beautifully designed menu (great graphical work). Nice cloth napkins. Cute restaurant, again completely full of funny illustrations. A little fireplace welcomes you from the freezy street - Just what I expected of a british earing house in such a sweet little town like Windor.

Service - Nice. Polite and helpful.

Price - 96.55 LS including 10% service for three people having first and main courses and one shared dessert, beers, soft drinks and two glasses of chamapgne.

Recommended dish - The crispy duck tossed in ceasar salad was yummy and so was the thai salad with coconut and shrimp (the taste of coconut sure made a fresh tasty surprise).

The best main courses were the scottish sirloin steak in blue cheese and peppercorn sauce, served medium-rare was yummy. The sauce was absulutly brilliant. The penne pasta with smoked chicken and herb sauce was great. In fact it was damn good pasta.

Cornenberg beer made us cheerful and the champagne with the dessert was great. And the dessert itself mmm.. Nice chunky warm banana cooked with toffie and served with chocolate ice-cream. A great combination of cold and warm, made us drool happily.

In conclusion...  Go there, this place rules!

Windsor, right across the street from WIndsor castle B

Atmosphere & Design - Cool british pick-up bar. White and dressy. After working houres, the boys and girls of Windor come here to pick and be picked up. All very trendy but not much fun.

Service - Self service with the help of the barman.

Price - 3.50 LS for alcoholic coffee, 3 LS for a cocktail, very reasonable.

Recommended dish - Nice beers, cheap cocktails. No cherries.

In conclusion... Not much to look for if your'e a tourist OK if you are a resident trying to get a date.

Atmosphere & Design - Purely black and white. They have the most beautiful glass dishes I have seen in years. Big yet problematic (non absorbent) cloth napkins, poor soon-to-be-dinner fish swimming in large tanks of water near a wonderful display of today's catch. The kitchen is half open to the crowed of eaters, the tables have romantic candle and the most scary rest rooms I have ever been to (give you that Jack the ripper feel..) - All of this makes the best restaurant I have been to in London.

And oh yes, did I mention the bowl of fresh out of the sea (not even skinned!) prawns they bring to the table on the house along with the menus? You just peel and munch them as you go through the menu. Lovely.

Service - Nice, courteous, helpful, foreign, funny (what a list eh?)

Price - 70.43 LS including service. THis is for cocktails, hot drinks, starters, main courses and desserts for two. All in all - not bad (you would pay much much more in Israel).

Recommended dish - Oh where should I begin?

They have the most wonderful cocktail list I have seen (Please God, make them have one like this in Israel!). The cosmopolitan I had was terrific, even better than the ones in the US. I would have had more if we were not on our way to the theater (it is not polite to see Jessica Lang and Charles Dance while pissed out of my mind right?)

The glazed mackerel fillet with chalet and goat cheese tatin with squash chutney was a delightful celebration of colors and flavors.

My main course (pan roasted 5 spiced tuna) was a disaster, since I was not prepared to the fact the main spice in it would be caraway that I cannot stand. Yet, the side dishes were wonderful - buttered chestnuts, tiny cranberry piies. Wonderful. My partner's dish - pan fried sea bass with tropical fruiit risotto, banana chutney, mango and pineapple salsa and lime leaf oil was an absolute triumph - beautiful and tastes like heaven.  The risotto was terrific.

For dessert I had the assorted Christmas desserts (mince ice-cream, mince strudel and Christmas pudding) was very fun for a little jewish girl on her first Christmas eve abroad (Note to you Israeli readers - mince is a type of charoset). My smug partner had a delightful collection of cheese and crackers, very british, very lovely, very smelly.

I urge you to order an espresso or machiatto to finish the meal. The glass cups are the most beautiful ever!

In conclusion... Only two complaints:
1. The dishes were very small.
2. If you make a dish based on caraway you better give a warning ahead (and as you can see, the names of the dishes there are very very long as is so..)

Apart from that - Sea food lovers, you must go there. If you are on your way to the theater (it's in the same building as the Lycum, where the Lion King is performing and close to all the other main theaters). If you don't have time for an entire meal, try the bar. I sure intend to do that next time I'm there.

Livebait - yum yum!

Service - Bad.

Price - Too expensive.

Recommended dish - Your favorite beer.

In conclusion... Why do I love this pub so much? Well, it is not that they have good food, special drinks or lovely barmen. Not in the least - the service is almost rude, the chairs are a 100 years old and feel like they're about to collapse any second and the food is expensive and not tempting at all.

So why must you go there? Cause they have the best terrace in Covent Garden, with a perfect view of the street shows in the church yard below. Cause they have the most beautiful signs, logos and black boards presenting today's specials you will find in London. Cause this is one of the greatest establishments of the area and it actually symbols the nature the Garden itself. And because I said so.

Little Italy
9 Thame st. Windsor R
01753 621663

Atmosphere & Design - It was oh so empty when we came.. Little tables with flowers, warm colorful (orange to be exact) atmosphere. Nice.

Service - Straight and to the point - Quick, courteous and helpful.

Price - Dennis took the bill
          So I don't have a clue
          (Trilili and troolooloo)

Recommended dish - The salmon and avocado salad was huge and extremely tasty. The garlic bread is a definite winner. For main course, I had a nice rigatoni bolognas. Etti thought her lasagna bolognas was not good, but Dennis and I disagree. It was succulent and the sauce was very tomatish and juicy - yum yum. Better skip the desert though.

In conclusion... All in all - yummy but nothing to write home aboutt. If you are there anyway (like we were, working) go there, but do not go to Windsor especially.

*  Better have no picture at all then then a fake one like at Punch & Judy ..
