Dreaming

Looking over her shoulder with anxious curiosity was unavoidable.
[unavoidable]
Tension screamed through little Sandra as those footsteps echoed from nowhere.
[nowhere]
In the previous twenty six years of her life was this ominous feeling so strong.
"Strong survive and the rest are fodder",
popped into her head like a voice from the past.
[past]
Security in her father's words helped to brave other storms; so what about now?
"Now is forever
and you must face those demons straight up."
Up until now these sayings were lost inside old memories and dreams.
Dreams flash and disappear, where as this
is real and
to the left was a shadowy figure.
"Figure out the angle
and speed of approach, then
strike with deadly force at the precise moment of intercept,
"whispered from that instructor she liked so well".
Well maybe it was really the wind
and her mind was playing tricks
and the adrenaline sure was flowing.
Flowing figures
and footsteps in the night,
like a bad dream or something that just wasn't right.
Right at this moment
Sandra just wanted to be at home with a warm drink
and a soft pillow surrounding her head. "Head towards the lights with quickened step if you are worried about attack,
and don't watch your back,
just watch where you are running."
Running late,
was the final excuse she needed to make a quick dash
across the road and into the lobby of Rob's apartment building.
Building up her shattered nerves
enough to ring his number and
wait.
Wait, there is no answer and
that figure still approaches from across the street.
Street lights on this side of the road allowed Sandra to see
a man almost jogging into the traffic with surprising confidence.
Confidence left her again and she frantically turned and rang the buzzer repeatedly.
Repeatedly mumbling little prayers and shaking as she heard the door open slowly.
Slowly opening an eye while turning towards the door,
she heard
"I'll answer that just as soon as I get home Sand."
Sand in their shoes and drinks in their hands,
they tell the story of,
"the night they fell in love,"
to anyone who will listen.
