Hello to all of you again. Well this page has been completely redone, and will be added onto very shortly, as all of my pictures have disappeared.... Anyways, here is a short tale of life in Santa Cruz, soon to be updated. Last updated on May 7th, 99
At The Beach
Located on the beaches of Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk combines everything that is great about Santa Cruz. You get a feel for the Santa Cruz lifestyle, as well as the amusement park atmosphere. When you get tired of walking from ride to ride, you can relax and bask in the rays of the sun on Main Beach. From the beach you can walk to the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf and enjoy great oceanfront dining at any on the large number of restaurants, or shop for souveniers until your heart is content. For the younger crowd, you can continue on to Cowell's Beach where you can rent an assortment of water sports equipment by the hour, or by the day. Rentable equipment includes wetsuits, body boards, skim boards, wind surfing boards, surf boards, kayaks, and more. During the summer, you can catch great Oldie's concerts presented every Friday night, with two free shows at 6:30pm, and 8:00pm.
In Town
The place to be in town is the Pacific Garden Mall. While in Downtown Santa Cruz, you can shop for any type of item you could want. Hand made Jewelry by local artists, Antiques, Clothes, Books, Candles, Musical Instruments, Music, A Wide Variety of Food, Collectable Items, Cool rocks, minerals and crystals, and more. If you are hungry, Marini's has a wide assortment of great candy, sold by weight. The Java House, and Cafe Pergolesi's have great coffee, tea, and deserts. For cheap food, there is Noah's Bagels, wuth a wide assortment of bagels. Next door is a great pizza place, although I can't think of it's name. For Ice Cream, there is the double rainbow cafe, but fr great smoothies, you can't beat the Java House. There are also several theaters, of which the Cinema Nine, and the Del Mar are both on the mall.
For culture, you can go to either the McPhereson Museum, which contains an exhibit of local history as well as two rotating exhibits. There is also the Nickelodeon which shows the latest foreign films. Above that, there are many art galeries to go to, and many places where you can here local, and cultural music as well.
Well that is all that I can think of to say off the top of my head, I will try to update this page in the near future. Also after I turn 21 in May, I will add a nice section on the night life I am sure.
At night:
Again, Cafe Pergolesis is a great place to go. Lots of local flavor, plus coffee galor, great deserts and good beer. If you are looking for a little more excitement, during the summer, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is open on Mondays thru Saturdays til at least 11 (sometimes it stays open later if there are a lot of crowds like on July 4th weekend), and until 10 on Sundays.
