Shira Late At Night

Shira turned on her cot. I've never had trouble sleeping before. She unloosed her hair and let it spill loose over her neck. I want to explain to Anne how strange it is, to feel as if your skin will crawl away and your head will float off. But perhaps that’s stopped. I haven’t felt that way in days.

I should have been more collected. I shouldn’t have spoken like that in front of everyone. No mage would have ever done it. But still... it felt so good... Shira shook her head against the thought and turned onto her other side. I feel as if I've met every medic and soldier in the camp in the two days since my first evening at Barrack Four. Now I hear them talking about me behind my back, but at least now they look up and smile when I pass. And if I do join them after dinner, everyone's pleasant. Shira rustled her shoulders. Everyone except for Kyle. He’s been almost running from me all day... But it feels good…to have people smile... it's good...

Shira went into her dreams as if borne on a warm sea.
