"CHEEBA" The Worlds Only Pipe Smoking Dog!!

Unfortunately, poor CHEEBA was unable to make the trip back to Toronto with me and was under the warm and loving care of my sister back in Nova Scotia. I was going to send for CHEEBA, but, alas I did not get the chance. My sweet, loyal and lovalbe companion never seemed to quite recover after I left. She had been having chronic ear trouble and then suffered an eye injury while outside after a huge ice storm. My sister told me that she took to just curling up in my old chair and little else. Her ailments were not responding to medications anymore and to top it off, the Vet seemed to feel that she was much older than the 6 years I had guesstimated her to be. (closer to twice that age, he said!!). In any event, it was clear that she was suffering and not enjoying much quality life whatsoever. We were so torn about what to do, but in the end heeded the wise words of the Doctor who commented, "Animals have a way of letting you know when it's time to let go." I must give credit to my Mother and Sister who, in my absence were forced to assume the responsibility of carrying out a most heart wrenching task. Thank you both. I know it was a very painful and unpleasant duty, to say the least. And so, on Feb. 9/98 CHEEBA went to final, peaceful sleep. There is so much I will miss about our time together. All the miles we travelled together. Your cozy little bundle keeping my feet warm on the bed at night. With tears in my eyes, I say, I miss you so much CHEEBA. I loved you then and I love you now. GOODBYE, MY SWEET FRIEND..!!
