BLACK WIDOW
(A Sonnet)

The bleak and black-heart bitch, unlike her clone,
The web-borne widow weaving wistful wiles,
But leaves him, languishing in love, alone,
And ne'er devours her spouse, but spitef'ly smiles.

So spared, the sap's reprieved from primal pain,
But not released, to live a death detached,
To harp on her who spilled his spore like rain
And stole his soul while hoarding hers, well-cached.

Arachne's found'ring fault for weaving wrongs:
Athena's ire displaced to swooning swains.
I'd sooner so succumb to sirens' songs
'Sto shock my ship on shores, wax-plugs restrained.

The female prates of pain while lab'ring life
But does not deem love's death's prodigious price.

THE WAGON

The humor and folly of it all
is not wasted on me,
Merely muted by reality,
the downward ride
away from expectation
Becoming inured to the buffeting wind
of gravity and despair.
There is no levelling ahead.
A vague wall hard to focus upon,
yet impossible to ignore.
The ride has lost its bumps
now smooth even boring.
Frustrations thrust out to
stretch
and become more comfortable, more...acquiescing.
An awfully humble cart for such an important ride, yet lighter,
less close.
The steering mechanism inoperable,
and I've yet to see, nor shall,
a wagon with a brake.
Towed by tides of destiny and time,
a pair who hear not that the ride should cease
Yet pass through walls that
halt the load...at last again at peace.
