README: Solaris for x86 2.4 Notebook Supplement September 1994 (FTP Version) This is a README file for the Solaris x86 2.4 Notebook Supplement. This file is distributed electronically with the Notebook Supplement; you should find the following files in the same electronic area as this one: ns24gd.tar.Z: The Solaris Notebook Supplement Guide in ASCII and PostScript ns24ns.img.Z: The Solaris Notebook Supplement diskette image nsread.txt: (This file) dd.exe: A DOS executable which may be used to place the image on a 1.44MB diskette. It is recommended you download and extract the Solaris Notebook Supplement Guide (ns24gd.tar.Z) before proceeding with the installation of the Notebook Supplement. An ASCII text version of the guide is provided to allow on-line viewing of the Guide. In particular, please review Chapters 1 and 2 for an overview of the Notebook Supplement and information on hardware requirements. To create the Solaris Notebook Supplement installation diskette, uncompress the file containing the image (ns24ns.img.Z). The uncompressed file, ns24ns.img, is 1.44MB in size; make sure you have adequate room for this on your system. Place the diskette image on a formatted 1.44MB diskette; if using a Solaris system, you may use the dd(1M) command, for example: dd if=ns24ns.img of=/dev/fd1 bs=18k You will need to use the appropriate diskette device for your Solaris system (i.e., /dev/fd0, /dev/fd1, etc.). You may also create the Solaris Notebook Supplement diskette on a DOS system, using the "freeware" utility dd.exe. A typical use of the dd.exe command is: dd ns24ns.img b: For further details on installing, configuring and using the Solaris Notebook Supplement, please refer to the Solaris Notebook Supplement Guide.
