Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 x86 Driver Update The Solaris x86 Driver Update is the mechanism by which new device drivers and video support are distributed to our customers. Driver Update releases are placed at: Public WWW: http://access1.sun.com http://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/sun-info/solaris-x86/sunsoft-drivers/ Public FTP: ftp://ftp.uu.net/vendor/sun/solaris/ ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/sun-info/solaris-x86/sunsoft-drivers/ Sun-internal FTP: ftp://newstop.ebay/sun/Solaris/x86drivers/ All the drivers on this Driver Update have been fully tested by SunSoft and will appear in their current form on the final version of this Driver Update. For complete Driver Update installation instructions and documentation on all previously-released drivers, see the Driver Update Guide. NOTE: You must read the Device Reference Page for each device you intend to use in your Solaris system. You must examine: 1) the x86 Device Configuration Guide originally included with your Solaris software, 2) the full Driver Update Guide from the previous Driver Update final release, and 3) the supplemental Device Reference Pages included here. There are no Device Reference Pages for drivers without special configuration instructions. Driver Update files are compressed whenever possible, to save you download time. Files with a .zip suffix are in standard PKZIP form, files with a .Z suffix are in standard UNIX compress(1) form, and the .bin suffix indicates a file which could not be compressed. Any particular file may appear in more than one compressed form. You need only one form of each file in the release. For instance, you could see these files: bt1.Z bt1.zip bt2.Z bt2.zip bt3.Z bt3.zip You should retrieve *either* the .Z *or* the .zip for each file; resulting in only 3 images (bt1, bt2, bt3). The standard Solaris distribution includes an "uncompress" utility, while unzip and uncompress utilities for DOS, Windows, and UNIX are available from a variety of sources. The uncompressed images should then be copied to diskettes, if you need to install Solaris using the Driver Update, or can be used directly if installing the Driver Update on a running Solaris system. To create diskettes, use the dd command supplied with Solaris, or the DOS version (DD.EXE) which you can find at ftp.uu.net:/vendor/sun/solaris/x86/dd.exe or on Compuserve in the SUNSOFT forum Solaris x86 library. =========================================================================== New or updated drivers in DU6: --------------------------------------- DISK INTERFACE DRIVERS ata Added support for using suspend/resume functionality on Toshiba Tecra 500 CDT and 720 CDT laptops; added support for NEC 280 ATAPI CD-ROM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCSI HBA DRIVERS hxhn New driver to support QLogic Fast!SCSI PCI IQ Host Adapter Cards (QLA1000-PI, QLA1001-PI) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ETHERNET NETWORK DRIVERS cnft Updated to support: Compaq Netelligent 10T PCI UTP (TLAN 3.03) Compaq Netelligent 10/100 TX UTP (TLAN 3.03) Compaq NetFlex-3 EISA and PCI controllers (TLAN 2.3) Compaq NetFlex-3 DUAL Port 100/100TX PCI UTP Compaq NetFlex-3 100Base-FX module Compaq ProLiant 2500 Integrated NetFlex-3 10/100 Compaq Professional Workstation 5000 Integrated NetFlex-3 10/100 Compaq Deskpro 4000 Integrated NetFlex-3 10/100 Compaq Deskpro 6000 Integrated NetFlex-3 10/100 fmvel Bug fixes for the ne2000 network card iprb Fixes a number of bugs in which the driver would fall off the network when stressed; implements the "Receive Lockup Errata" solution as recommended by Intel -------------------------------------------------------------------------- FDDI Network Driver sxp Fixes a number of bugs in which the driver would fall off the network when stressed; the driver has been restructured for greater efficiency, and the sys_core loadable module has been removed -------------------------------------------------------------------------- PC Card (PCMCIA) Hardware pcelx Added support for IBM ThinkPad 760E series systems ========================================================================== New VIDEO SUPPORT Diamond Stealth 3D (PCI S3 ViRGE) Matrox MGA Millenium 220 (PCI STORM) Matrox MGA Mystique (PCI MGA 1064 SG) Number Nine 9FX Reality 332 (PCI ViRGE) Number Nine Imagine 128 Series 2 (PCI Imagine128 V2) S3 ViRGE chipset =========================================================================== New NOTEBOOK VIDEO SUPPORT HP Omni 5550 A, C, D, E, H IBM ThinkPad 760CD A, E, H IBM ThinkPad 760ED A, E, F, H A LCD supported at 640x480x8 B LCD supported at 800x600x8 (and is default LCD resolution) C External monitor supported at 640x480x8, 800x600x8, and 1024x768x8 D LCD and External Monitor supported at 640x480x8 E LCD and External Monitor supported at 800x600x8 F External monitor supported at 1280x1024x8 G LCD and External Monitor supported at 1024x768x8 H External monitor supported at 1024x768x8 Caution - Even though many notebook computers are capable of supporting external monitors at a resolution higher than 640x480, do *not* change the default video resolution on a notebook computer to be anything other than what the internal monitor can support. Higher resolution video modes do not work on the integrated LCD screen. If you start up the window system without an external monitor, you may not see anything on the LCD screen; in some cases, this may even damage your LCD screen.
