HP iPAQ Pocket PC h4100 Series ROM Update |
VERSION: |
1.00 |
DESCRIPTION: |
This package contains the ROM Update Utility (RUU) and ROM image for the listed handheld model. IMPORTANT: This update utility replaces the current ROM image and erases the partnership and all user data and programs on the handheld. It is important to read and understand the information in the Readme.txt file, which is included with this update, BEFORE installing this SoftPaq. It is not recommended that you restore a previous back-up after you upgrade the ROM on your iPAQ Pocket PC. Due to configuration changes in the registry, restoring old files could cause system performance issues. The ROM date under Asset Viewer will not match the web release date. The "Asset Viewer" date should not be used to determine the level of the ROM revision. |

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive. 2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the ROM Update files to a directory. (NOTE: This directory should not contain any file or folder from any previous ROM Upgrade.) 3. Establish an Activesync connection between the iPAQ Pocket PC and host PC through either a USB or serial connection. 4. Execute the RUU.exe file, which is located in the directory created in Step 2, to begin the upgrade process. Follow the instructions displayed by the ROM Upgrade Utility. 5. Delete the self-extracting file downloaded in Step 1, if desired. INSTALLATION NOTES: 1. During the update, the ROM Update Utility will: - Query the handheld for current ROM image information. - Validate that the new ROM image is compatible with the handheld. - Automatically place the handheld in Flash mode. - Update the ROM image on the handheld. - Request that the handheld be reset when the installation is complete. 2. IMPORTANT: Disable the Standby and Hibernation modes on the host PC. If Standby or Hibernation mode are activated during the upgrade process, a critical error may occur. 3. IMPORTANT: Plan enough time to complete the update process. The total time required to perform a ROM backup and a ROM update is estimated to be as follows: - With USB connection - 20 minutes - With Serial connection - 90 minutes 4. IMPORTANT: Do not interact with the handheld or remove it from AC power or the cradle/cable once the status bar appears on the handheld and the actual update has started. 5. If an error message is displayed during the process, follow any available instructions to correct the condition and start the utility again. 6. The update process can be performed while connected to a host PC either as a Guest or with an established partnership. Copyright (c) 2004 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. |
